Campaigners for savings on the Private Finance Initiative claimed a huge victory today with the announcement by the Treasury of plans to deliver at least £1.5 billion savings on PFI. The economic argument for PFI has never been worse. The Government can borrow money at under 4 per cent, and private companies can borrow money at 8 or 9 per cent.
